Berhampur: Vigilance on Thursday apprehended two junior clerks while accepting bribe in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
Following complaint by Kalicharan Panigrahi, a retired Science attendant of Jaypur High School in Aska of the district, that Susil Kumar Patnaik, junior clerk in DEO office at Berhampur, and Pradip Kumar Mohanty, junior clerk of Jaypur Nodal High School at Aska, were demanding Rs 10,000 for finalisation of his retirement benefits, the Vigilance laid a trap.
As per the plan, Panigrahi went to pay the bribe to Patnaik. As told by Patnaik, the retired official handed over the money to Mohanty. After counting the tainted GC notes, Mohanty kept Rs 3000 with him and handed over Rs 7000 to Patnaik.
The Vigilance officials recovered the tainted money from both junior clerks and seized incriminating document from the possession of Patnaik.
Berhampur Vigilance has filed a case under PC (amendment) Act 2018 in this connection and launched further investigation.
