Vigilance Arrests Assistant Engineer After Highest Cash Seizure Of Over Rs 2 Crore In Bhubaneswar
Berhampur: The Vigilance has arrested assistant engineer Kartikeswar Raul after seizure of over Rs 2 crore in cash from his house in Bhubaneswar.
On the allegation of possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income by Raul, assistant engineer, office of Executive Engineer, Minor Irrigation, Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district, Vigilance conducted simultaneous house searches on his properties at 6 places in Khurda and Ganjam district on Wednesdfay.
During the searches, the following assets worth over Rs 4.76 crore were unearthed in the name of Raul and his family members:
- Rs 2,03,00,880 in cash including Rs 2,00,50,000 from the house of Raul and his second wife at TATA Ariana Flat No 0505 in Bhubaneswar. It was the highest cash seizure in the history of Odisha Vigilance
- 20 gold biscuits weighing 580 gms worth Rs 29 lakh
- One double-storey building at Jagamara, Khandagiri, Bhubaneswar worth over Rs 72 lakh
- 3BHK Flat at Tusti Residency, Dumduma, Khandagiri, Bhubaneswar worth over Rs 40 lakh
- 2BHK Flat at Cosmopolis Residency, Dumduma, Khandagiri, Bhubaneswar worth over Rs 33.63 lakh
- Double-storey building at native village Langaleswar under Khalikote police station in Ganjam district worth over Rs 28 lakh
- Fixed deposits, bank and insurance deposits worth around Rs 37.23 lakh
- 7 plots including 2 in prime area of Bhubaneswar and 5 plots in and around Khalikote town
- A four-wheeler worth over Rs 14 lakh
- 3 two-wheelers
- Household articles worth over Rs 17.95 lakh
- Gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 5.72 lakh
After thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Raul were calculated and
he was found in possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 5,00,82,794 which constituted 741% of his known sources of income.
The Vigilance arrested Raul on Thursday and forwarded him to the Court of Special Judge Vigilance, Bhubaneswar on Friday.
