Vigilance Sleuths Nab ASI Of Police Taking Bribe In Odisha

Cuttack: An ASI of police in Kalahandi district was caught taking bribe by Vigilance officials and arrested on Saturday.

According to a Vigilance Directorate release, Pabitra Nayak of Chandragiri Maligaon village of Rayagada had approached Sumeswar Bag, ASI in Thuamul Rampur police station in Kalahandi district to settle his family dispute over financial benefit received after death of his father due to lightning. Bag had reportedly demanded Rs 50,000 as gratification to settle the matter.

After Nayak approached the Vigilance officials, a trap was laid and Nayak went to meet Bag with the bribe amount. Bag directed Nayak to give the money to Home Guard Raghumani Nayak who was present there.

On Bag’s order, the Home Guard received the bribe money and went to nearby bank to verify the genuineness of the currency notes. While he was returning, he saw the Vigilance team, handed over the money to an OAPF constable and fled. Later, the bribe money was recovered and seized.

Later, the ASI was arrested and his residential house in Bhawanipatna searched. Koraput Vigilance has registered a case in this regard.
