Chennai: Tamil superstar Vijay’s much-anticipated final film Jana Nayagan has been leaked online just days ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026, triggering outrage across the film industry and among fans.
According to reports, the controversy began with a leak of a five-minute clip featuring the film’s title credits and the actor’s opening scene. Within hours, the situation escalated, with copies of the unreleased film surfacing on multiple piracy websites.
The leak comes at a sensitive time, as the film, directed by H. Vinoth, is widely seen as Vijay’s cinematic swansong before his full-fledged political entry. The timing has intensified speculation, with some fans alleging a conspiracy behind the breach.
The film has already faced multiple hurdles. Initially slated for a Pongal 2026 release, Jana Nayagan was delayed due to certification issues with the Central Board of Film Certification, and remains stuck in re-examination.
Industry bodies and fans have strongly condemned the leak, calling for strict legal action against those responsible. Social media platforms have been flooded with appeals urging users not to share pirated content, with warnings that offenders could face legal consequences.
The production house has reportedly begun efforts to remove leaked clips, though the rapid spread of pirated versions has made containment challenging. The incident has reignited concerns over digital piracy and its impact on films.
