Paralakhemundi: In a significant anti-narcotics operations, Odisha Police seized 4060 kg of ganja valued at around Rs 4 crore from Keshariguda village under Adava police limits in Odisha’s Gajapati district.

Acting on on specific intelligence, a task force, comprising R Udayagiri SDPO, personnel from Mohana and Adava police stations and led by Gajapati SP Jatindra Kumar Panda, conducted the raids in the village. As the police team approached the village, residents reportedly fled their homes and took shelter in a nearby hill, leaving the contraband behind.

During the search, 4,060 kg of ganja packed in 202 sacks, abandoned across various locations in the village, were seized in the presence of executive magistrate and two independent witnesses. “We received credible information regarding contraband being stocked for selling and acted swiftly on it. A case has been registered at Adava police station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those involved,” the SP told the media.

Two teams have been deployed specifically to track down the culprits, he added.
