Nabarangpur: A wild bear which created havoc among locals in Nabarangpur district of Odisha was captured by a forest department team on Monday.
Post capture, the bear was shifted to a safe location in a cage. It will be released in the wild after one week of monitoring and completion of formalities, said sources.
The bear was first spotted in Chandrapur village of Papadahandi tehsil in Nabarangpur district two weeks back. The wild animal stay put at a thorny bush near the village boundary and frequented human habitations triggering panic among villagers.
There were reports of the bear chasing villagers who ventured out in the evening. Following this the locals met forest personnel and demanded capturing the animal.
After a five-day-long ordeal the authorities were able to trap the bear in a cage with the help of a rapid response team, the sources added.
The villagers heaved a a sigh of relief after the bear was finally captured and shifted to a safe location on Tuesday.
