Violent Clash In Bhubaneswar’s Jharpada Jail: Authorities Seek Permission To Shift 20 Inmates
Bhubaneswar: After a violent clash in Jharpada jail in Bhubaneswar, the prison authorities have sought the permission of the government to shift 20 inmates to some other jail.
As per reports, Director General (Prisons) has sought permission to shift 20 inmates, including Chakara and Sambhu of Jharpada jail to some other prison.
The DG (Prisons) further reportedly stated that negligence on part of the Jharpada jail authorities has been detected and the inquiry report has already been sent to the Home department for appropriate steps.
Sources said that a special team of Commissionerate Police conducted raid in Jharpada jail on Wedbesday. The raid was conducted following a group clash between the inmates.
The clash reportedly took place between Chakradhar Barik group and Shambhunath Barik group on Tuesday. In the clash, Shambhunath Barik was severely injured and was rushed to the Capital Hospital.
Reportedly, the gangs have been involved in drug dealing. There was conflict about drug trade in the jail. The superintendent of prison Lakshmi Sagar has informed the police station. Reports suggest that the fight ensued after a mobile was found in the jail.
During the raid, the police seized small amounts of contraband items like ganja, gutka, bidi, khaini, matchboxes and lighters from the premises early on Wednesday.
Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh accompanied by two Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, five Additional Commissioner of Police, 11 inspectors and 22 sub-inspectors with four platoons of police force conducted the raid.
According to police sources, the raid was conducted to detect contraband items or communication devices used by the jail inmates.
