Mumbai: ‘The Kashmir Files’ director Vivek Agnihotri threw shade on Bollywood filmmakers for not confronting A-listers when their movies tank at the box office.
Referring to Ranbir Kapoor’s controversial film ‘Animal’, which was criticised for its violent content, Vivek even dared the Bollywood filmmakers to boycott the actor if they can.
Taking a dig at filmmakers for not being courageous enough to criticise A-listers on their face, Vivek revealed that they do so behind closed doors as they are dependent on the actors’ star power.
“Aukaat hi nahi hai inki, himmat hai karne ki, kar ke dikhayein (They don’t have the guts to do so. If they have courage, then they should do and show),” Vivek told Digital Commentary.
Challenging Bollywood insiders to name one producer or director who hasn’t spoken negatively about an A-lister in private, he added, “Do they have the courage to say anything in public? They don’t. So they deserve to suffer. Do phir Rs 150 crore ghatiya kaam ke, sadi hui acting ke (Then, they have to give Rs 150 crore for bad acting).”
Explaining why he has distanced himself from mainstream Bollywood, he clarified, “My problem is with people who behave like stars without being one.”
‘Animal’ director Sandeep Reddy Vanga also broke his silence about the backlash he received after the film’s release.
“Everybody said Ranbir was brilliant, but the writer-director was criticised. I understood they want to work with Ranbir. It’s easy to make a comment about me because I am new for this place,” Vanga shared.
