VVS Laxman Congratulates ‘Canal Man’ Of Odisha For Padma Shri
Bhuabneswar: Former cricketer VVS Laxman on Saturday praised the exemplary contribution of Daitari Naik of Odisha’s Keonjhar district, who has been honoured with Padma Shri.
In the tweet, he spoke about the 70-year-old farmer and how he created a 3-km-long canal through a mountain with a hoe and a crowbar.

The ‘Canal Man’ of Baitarani village under Banspal blcok, Daitari had a tough time digging a canal through the hills. He hogged headlines after carving out about the 3-kilometer-long canal to bring water from Karatakata Nullah by breaking rocks to irrigate his cultivated land.
