Hyderabad: Incessant rainfall continues to wreak havoc in different parts of Telangana.

In the latest visual reflecting widespread damage, a video shows a 30-feet tall boundary wall of a 17th-century fort in Jangaon district collapsing on Thursday.

Official apathy and neglect over the years affected the Quila Shapur fort, located 95 km from Hyderabad.

“People live in row houses very close to the fort wall. Around 7.30 am, the wall collapsed onto three houses, severely damaging them. Around 40 people have been evacuated and moved to nearby government high school,” said Raghunathapally sub-inspector K Ashok Kumar.

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured in the incident.

Watch the video here:

Kumar informed that cracks developed on the wall in June itself during early monsoon and some repair work was carried out. But water continued to seep in during recent rains and the wall ultimately collapsed.

Director (in-charge) of Department of Heritage Telangana KS Sreenivasa Raju has asked for an investigation and report on the incident.

The fort was built almost 400 years ago by local leader Sarvay Papadu, who had revolted against the Golconda rulers and defied Mughal-imperial authority.
