London: The Death Gun Salute was fired on Friday afternoon in London and around the UK to mark the passing away of Queen Elizabeth II after a 70-year-old reign.
Ninety-six shots were fired – signifying one for every year of Her Majesty’s life – every 10 seconds.
The shots were fired from Hyde Park and Tower of London in the country’s capital, Edinburgh Castle in Scotland, Hillsborough Castle in Northern Ireland and Cardiff Castle in Wales, as well as Channel Islands and Gibraltar.
The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery fired the Death Gun Salute at the iconic Hyde Park, while at the Tower of London the ceremonial gun salute was fired by the Honourable Artillery Company simultaneously.
