[Watch] African Cheetah Gives Birth To 4 Cubs At Kuno National Park

Bhopal: Two days after one of the African cheetahs brought in six months ago died because of a kidney ailment, there was good news.

A Namibian cheetah gave birth to four cubs at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday.

Sharing the news on Twitter, Union minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Labour & Employment Bhupender Yadav posted a video and picture of the newborn cubs.

Watch the video clip:

Of the 8 Namibian cheetahs released in Kuno by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17 last year, five were female and three male.

The death of Sasha, one of the female big cats, was a setback to Project Cheetah — aimed to revive cheetahs in India seven decades after they became extinct.

Hence the birth of four cubs will bring a lot of cheer to forest officials and animal lovers.

Four of the 8 Namibian cheetahs – 3 males and a female — were released in the park’s open forest area.

According to Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF-Wildlife) JS Chauhan, they are “totally healthy, active and hunting in a normal manner.”

Last month, 12 more cheetahs were flown in from South Africa. They are presently in a quarantine enclosure — healthy and active.
