New Delhi: BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Bhopal, Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, has triggered yet another controversy. Reacting to Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder and actor Kamal Hasan’s comments that Nathuram Godse was the first Hindu terrorist who killed Mahatma Gandhi, Thakur said Godse was a “patriot”.
“Nathuram Godse was a deshbhakt, is a deshbhakt and will remain a deshbhakt. People calling him a terrorist should instead look within. Such people (Kamal Hasan) will be given a befitting reply in these elections,” she told reporters.

The BJP, however, was quick to condemn her statement. “The BJP does not agree with this statement, we condemn it. The party will ask her for a clarification, she should apologise publicly for this statement,” party spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao said.
Thakur, the Malegaon blast accused, has been in the news ever since she was fielded by the BJP for the Bhopal Lok Sabha seat, against Digvijay Singh of the Congress.
She had courted a major controversy by saying she had cursed Maharashtra ATS chief Hemant Karkare during her prison term, after which he died in firing during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
Sadhvi Pragya also told India Today TV during an interview that she was cured of her cancer after drinking cow urine.
