Kolkata: In a swift night operation, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Sunday rescued 11 people from a sinking merchant vessel en route from Kolkata to Port Blair.

The Coast Guard ships—Sarang and Amogh—along with a CG Dornier aircraft, navigated through the rough waters to perform the rescue mission.

According to the Indian Coast Guard, MV ITT PUMA—a merchant vessel—reportedly sank 90 nautical miles (nm) south of Sagar Island.

Thereafter, the ICG launched a sea-air Search and Rescue (SAR) operation in extremely inclement sea conditions.
