[Watch] COVID Cases Rising, Bed Capacity In Odisha Capital To Be Doubled

Bhubaneswar: The Commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation Prem Chandra Chaudhary on Wednesday sought the cooperation of people to check the surge in COVID-19 cases in the capital city.

Stating that the cases in areas under BMC are rising despite imposition of several measures by the government, Chaudhary said  it has been observed that people in some areas, particularly markets, are not adhering to COVID protocols.

He requested people venturing out to wear masks and follow social distancing as religiously as possible to flatten the rising curve.

Warning of strict action against violators of COVID protocols, the BMC Commissioner said steps like sealing of shops in the city are already being taken. “Still, if people do not take the situation seriously, we are preparing for the worst case scenario,” he added.

“Steps are being taken to increase the bed capacity in COVID hospitals by 3,000 in about 10 days. At present, there are around 3,000 beds in COVID hospitals of which 50 per cent are occupied,” he said.

Informing about home isolation cases, Chaudhary said more than 85 per cent of COVID positive cases are in home isolation and BMC is providing essential drugs to them.
