Cuttack: A young boy from the city has used his magic skills to charm the people of Indonesia and strengthen the relation between Odisha and the island nation which goes back to a long time.
Saransh Das of Cuttack has taken an initiative to organise an online magic show with participation of magicians from India and Indonesia. Five magicians from Indonesia and four from India including Saransh participated in the show which is a magic collaboration-cum-documentary.
Saransh is the director, producer and organiser of the show, named ‘The Eagle of the Strom’. Indonesian magicians Arief, Fritzy, Farchan, Aaron and Peter and their India n counterparts Saransh Das, Akshaya, Anchal Kumawat and Shivam displayed their magic skills on the online show.
During the show, Saransh explained the historical maritime relation between Odisha and Indonesia and also the role of former chief minister Biju Patnaik in Indonesia’s freedom movement.
“My aim was to highlight the strong ties that India and Indonesia had in the past. Besides trade, the two countries were engaged in cultural exchange. One can see vivid imprint of Indian culture in temples and lifestyle of Indonesians even today,” Saransh said.
“Odisha in particular holds a special place in the history of the island country between Indian and Pacific oceans. Our braveheart Biju Babu’s contribution to Indonesia’s freedom movement remains the brightest spot in the relation between two countries. In order to highlight all these, I planned to make a documentary and magic show,” said Saransh.
A third year BTech student of Lovely Professional University in Punjab, Saransh developed interest in magic at a very young age when he was in school. Initially, his parents didn’t like the idea, but once they realised that Saransh had a knack for magic, they encouraged him.
“The relationship between India and Indonesia is very old. The youths should know about Biju Babu’s contribution towards strengthening the ties. I am very happy that Saransh has taken this initiative to strengthen the relationship,” said Saransh’s father Biswajit Das who stays at Sixth Battalion campus in OMP in Cuttack.
Saransh has showcased his magic skills in over 500 shows on virtual and stage platforms in different countries in the last nine years. He regularly shares the stage with international-level magicians and is the talk of the Silver City.
