Watch: Dantewada Maoist Attack Survivor’s Emotional Message To His Mother

Chattisgarh: Amid the gunshots in the forests of Aranpur, in Chattisgarh’s Dantewada, assistant cameraman of national broadcaster Doordarshan, Mor Mukut Sharma recorded an emotional video for his mother saying he might not come out alive and that he loves her.

He said, “We came here to shoot the voting procedures and we were on our way when the Maoists surrounded us all of a sudden. We have six to seven army personnel. They are shooting. Mother, if I escape this and come back alive, it is a big thing,” he said.

He said that the chances of his survival are less. “Mother, I love you a lot and I might die in this attack. The situation is not very good. I don’t know why I am not scared even when death is staring me in the face,” he further said in the video.

Later in the video, he is heard asking for water. An army man gives him some as he mutters, “Look, what a life,”.

Sharma asks him if it is safe, to which the army man says, “Not as of now, but don’t worry.”

The army man asks Sharma to keep guard and lie down as the situation seemed to be getting worse. Someone can also be heard shouting for an ambulance and when Sharma asks for water again, he is denied and asked to stay under cover.

The situation finally seems better and an ambulance can be seen standing while Sharma is assured of safety.

Fortunately, Sharma came out alive. Even with danger and death hovering over him, he recorded all that he could to send a message to his mother and also for us to see how grave the situation was. While the army men, with their bravery, saved Sharma and several other, the cameraman, identified as Achyutananda Sahu of Odisha’s Balangir district, was killed. Two policemen also lost their lives and as many were injured in the attack.
