Kedarnath: The portals of Shri Kedarnath Dham and doors of the shrine closed for the winter season on Sunday at 8:30 am. The portals were closed amid Vedic rituals and religious traditions. The closing of the doors took place as the Indian Army band played devotional tunes.
Chants of ‘Om Namah Shivay, Jai Baba Kedar’ filled the air. The doors of Yamunotri were also shut.
Lord Shiva’s palanquin was taken to Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath, the deity’s winter abode, from Kedarnath. Similarly, the idol of goddess Yamuna was shifted to Kharsali village.
This year, over 7.1 lakh devotees offered prayers at Yamunotri, 16.1lakh at Kedarnath and 12.5lakh at Badrinath, reported the TOI, quoting officials.
On November 2, the doors of Gangotri Dham were closed. The palanquin of goddess Ganga departed for Mukhba, her winter abode, from Gangotri. The final closure for Badrinath Dham will be on November 17, marking the end of this year’s pilgrimage season.
