[Watch] Groom Has Dengue Before Wedding, Exchanges Vows In Hospital
New Delhi: What was supposed to be a lavish wedding with hundreds of attendees in a banquet hall was scaled down to just 10 people and that too in a hospital!
It so happened that the 27-year-old groom was grappling with dengue on his wedding day. Avinash Kumar found himself exchanging vows in the hospital due to a low platelet count that prevented his discharge. Despite the unexpected turn of events, the wedding ceremony took place in the meeting hall of Delhi’s Max Vaishali Hospital.
Four days before the wedding, Avinash fell seriously ill, leading to a high fever. He ended up in the high-dependency unit after being diagnosed with dengue. Reportedly, his blood platelet count had dropped to a dangerously low level of 10,000, well below the threshold of 20,000.
Despite efforts to postpone the wedding, Avinash’s fever persisted, prompting his father, Rajesh Kumar, to consider a delay. However, when Anuradha and her family visited him at the hospital the next day, the idea struck them that the couple could still be married in a brief ceremony in the hospital on the auspicious day.
“We were worried when my son fell ill and was admitted to the high-dependency unit of the hospital. We were also tense as the bride’s family had made arrangements and guests were already invited. However, the hospital accepted our request. Once Avinash is fine, we can have a reception party,” said Rajesh as quoted by the TOI.
Anuradha, a nurse at a Faridabad hospital, expressed her surprise, saying, “I never thought that my baraat would not come, and instead, I would have to go to a hospital with my family to get married.”
