Chennai: This is one Mother’s Day story that will melt your heart and doff your hat to Anand Mahindra in admiration.
The millionaire industrialist, known to be a messiah for talented people, fulfilled his promise of gifting a Tamil Nadu woman Kamalathal, popularly known as Idli Amma, a house. To make the occasion even more memorable, she got her new home on Mother’s Day.
“Immense gratitude to our team for completing the construction of the house in time to gift it to Idli Amma on #MothersDay She’s the embodiment of a Mother’s virtues: nurturing, caring & selfless. A privilege to be able to support her & her work. Happy Mother’s Day to you all!” Mahindra wrote along with a video in which Idli Amma is seen entering her new home.
Idli Amma, who lives in Vadivelampalayam, a village in Tamil Nadu’s Namakkal district, has been selling idlis with sambhar and chutney for 37 years at only Re 1.

When her story went viral three years ago, Mahindra wrote that he would be happy to ‘invest’ in her business. The businessman shared a tweet in April 2021 indicating that Idli Amma will soon have her own house to serve people her home-cooked food.
