New Delhi: Neeraj Chopra added yet another feather to his cap as he won the Diamond League Final Trophy in Zurich on Thursday, becoming the first Indian to win the trophy.
The 24-year-old Olympic champion threw 88.44 m in his second attempt to finish on top of the podium, following it up with a 88-m throw in his third attempt and 86.11 m in his fourth attempt. His fifth attempt was 87 m while his last attempt was 83.6 m.
Chopra did not have a good start as he committed a foul in the very first throw. Czech Republic’s Jakub Valdejch had the best throw of 84.15 m in the first attempt, which he bettered to 86 m in the second attempt.
Olympic silver medallist Jakub Vadlejch of Czech Republic finished second with a best throw of 86.94 m which he registered in his fourth attempt. Julian Weber of Germany was third with a best throw of 83.73 m.
It is noteworthy that Chopra is now the Olympic champion, World Championships silver medallist and Diamond League champion. He achieved all these in just 13 months. Chopra won the Olympic gold on August 7 last year in Tokyo.
