Mumbai: The trailer of Kangana Ranaut starrer controversial political drama ‘Emergency’ was released by Zee Studio on their official YouTube channel on Monday.
Lead actress of the movie Kangana shared the trailer on her X handle and wrote, “1975, Emergency — A Defining chapter in Indian History. Indira: India’s most powerful woman. Her ambition transformed the nation, but her #EMERGENCY plunged it into chaos.”
The two-minute trailer begins with Jayaprakash Narayan (played by Anupam Kher) writing a letter to the Prime Minister. Then, Kangana is introduced as Indira Gandhi, who is seen holding a conversation with the President and calling herself the ‘cabinet’ before declaring the Emergency. Actor Shreyas Talpade plays the role of Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the film.
In the movie, Kangana’s character goes against all other leaders and says that the only way truth can triumph is by waging a war.
Milind Soman, who plays the role of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, asks the Prime Minister if she wants a war and Kangana’s grave look gives the answer.
Kangana’s character decides to declare an Emergency as the country plunges into violence, bloodshed and death. As the trailer comes to an end, Kangana is heard saying, “Indira is India.”
The film also stars Mahima Chaudhry as Pupul Jayakar, Ashok Chhabra as Morarji Desai, Vishak Nair as Sanjay Gandhi and the late Satish Kaushik as Jagjivan Ram.
Written, directed, and co-produced by Kangana, ‘Emergency’ will hit theatres on January 17.
Earlier, the film was scheduled to release on September 6, 2024. However, the release got delayed as it failed to get a clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
