Bhubaneswar: A lady passenger of an Express train had a providential escape at Cuttack railway station on Thursday when alert railway staff saved her from coming under the wheels of the train.
A video released by ECoRly showed the lady trying to alight from the slow-moving Puducherry-Howrah Express on platform No 2 around 4pm when she slipped. She managed to hold on to the hand-rails but her feet were dragging against the platform, till a railway staff came to her rescue, pushing her back inside the coach.
T.R. Barik, the senior section engineer signal & telecom, has come under praise from ECoRly general manager Vidya Bhushan for his heroic act. He has been rewarded with a cash prize.
ECoRly sources said the passenger was trying to alight from the train as it had slowed down at the station. The train does not have a scheduled stoppage at Cuttack, but the passenger seemed unaware of it.
