Puri: The construction work of ‘Tumba’ (circular central axle mounting pad of wheel) of the chariots of Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra and Lord Jagannath started on Sunday in adherence to COVID protocol.
The process began after ‘Ratha Anukula’ puja on the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya which was held on May 15. Chariot construction work for annual Rath Yatra starts from Akshay Tritiya day.
According to the schedule, ‘tumba’ construction of chariots start from the ‘Baisakha Shukla Chaturthi tithi’, which is on Sunday.
The Karati Sevayats started cutting Phasi Wood, logs of which have reached the Ratha Khala of the Temple Town over a period of time. They will be preparing axles for 42 wheels of the three chariots.
