Prayagraj: A major fire broke out at the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj on Sunday afternoon.
Several fire tenders are at the spot trying to get things under control. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel are also at the site, engaged in rescue and control operations.
The fire broke out in sector 19 of Mahakumbh tent city, reported Hindustan Times.
According to preliminary information, the fire may have been caused by an explosion of a cooking cylinder.
About 20 to 25 tents have been burnt down, according to Dainik Bhaskar.
PTI and ANI shared videos of the Mahakumbh fire on X.
Earlier in the day, devotees gathered at the Mahakumbh amid a layer of dense fog that engulfed the area. The not-so-nice weather conditions didn’t seem to have an effect on the footfall of pilgrims.
The Mahakumbh, which started on January 13, has brought together 77.2 million pilgrims who have already taken a dip at Sangam Triveni as of January 18.
