[Watch] Minor Girl Dies Post Surgery In SCB Cuttack, Parents Allege Medical Negligence
Malkangiri: Parents of a 7-year-old girl, who died while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, are staging a dharna in front of Malkangiri collector’s office here on Wednesday.
The girl has been identified as Elisa Nag, daughter of Sahadev Nag, of 119 Colony under Malkangiri headquarters town municipality jurisdiction.
As per reports, three fingers on one of Elisa’s hands were invalid and she was undergoing treatment at district headquarters hospital here. After several rounds of check-ups, the DHH doctors referred her to SCB Medical on March 1.
Unfortunately, she succumbed post-surgery in the MCH on March 9.
The angry parents alleged doctors’ negligence at SCBMCH resulting in their child’s death.
Speaking to media, her father said “three fingers of Elisa were joint and we were trying to get her operated soo she can lead a normal life. She was taken inside and doctors brought her outside after three hours. She was unconscious when she was brought out and later we learnt that she is dead.”
Sahadev said his daughter was fit and doing well when she was taken to Cuttack SCB until before the operation. The bereaved father has demanded justice and action against the medical staff involved.
Malkangiri Tehsildar Gunanidhi Naik met the parents at the agitation site and said district and police administration have advised them to file an FIR and go in for the girl’s post mortem to ascertain the cause of death.
They will be provided financial assistance from district Red Cross funds, Harishchandra Yojana and livelihood projects cafter considering their eligibility, he added.
