Chennai: A political storm has erupted after senior Congress leader KS Alagiri suggested that actor-politician Kangana Ranaut “should be slapped” if she visits certain parts of Tamil Nadu. The former state party chief made the comment while recalling Ranaut’s earlier remarks about women farmers, which he said had hurt the sentiments of the agricultural community.
“Yesterday, 10-15 agriculturists came to me and reported that Kangana Ranaut once told the press about agricultural women that they are working in the feeble lands … She immediately replied that if given Rs 100, they can come anywhere. I was shocked,” Alagiri said. He went on to tell the farmers: “If she comes to our area, you should slap her the way a CISF constable slapped her at the Chandigarh airport. Only then will she rectify her mistake.”
Unfazed by the controversy, Kangana Ranaut hit back, asserting her right to move freely. “No one can stop anyone. If there are people who hate me, there are more people who love me,” she said. Pointing to her ties with Tamil Nadu, where she played J. Jayalalithaa in Thalaivii, she added, “Even opposition MPs from Tamil Nadu recently called me Thalaivii. One person saying something won’t make any difference.”

The actor also underlined that often the “dignity and integrity” of individuals is attacked, but she remained firm. The row has once again spotlighted her controversial 2020 social media post during the farmers’ protest, which she later deleted after backlash, and the Chandigarh airport incident where a CISF officer allegedly slapped her claiming her words were “very ugly.”
