[Watch] Odisha Singer Humane’s Father-In-Law Speaks About ‘Domestic Violence’ Against Shriya
Cuttack: Even as playback singer Humane Sagar and his wife Shriya Mishra appeared before Mahila Police in Odisha’s Cuttack city for counselling with regard to the latter’s domestic violence complaint, his father-in-law Srikant Mishra on Thursday said that trouble started brewing in the couple’s marital life soon after their wedding.
“Humane had been physically and mentally torturing my daughter under the influence of alcohol for the last five years. He was also unhappy about the birth of a girl child and had been harassing her since then. All our efforts to resolve the issue went in vain because of which we had to approach the police,” alleged Shriya’s father.
He further said Humane and his mother misbehaved with them when they had gone to his house at CDA Sector-6 after getting a call from his daughter whom he had then brutally assaulted. “I want justice for my daughter and don’t wish for her to return to Humane,” he said.
He, however, refused to comment on the rumours about his alleged multiples affairs.
Shriya, who shifted to her parental place in Balasore about five months ago, met DCP Cuttack Pinak Mishra on Tuesday and lodged a complaint, accusing Humane of neglecting and torturing her physically and mentally for the last few months. The complaint was forwarded to Mahila Police, which then summoned the duo for counselling in accordance with the procedure in domestic violence cases.
The police may register a case if the issues between them are not sorted out during the counselling, sources said.
On the other hand, Shriya’s lawyer Anil Ray said, “Humane wanted to convert Shriya to Christianity and she was against it. Besides, she was subjected to torture for dowry. After the wedding, her parents had given Humane Rs 10 lakh and another Rs 5 lakh, besides a luxury car. He had even attempted to kill her,” he alleged.
Talking to the media, Humane said, “I came to know about the complaint from the media. I have come to meet the IIC following which I can talk about it.”
Humane Sagar’s lawyer said, “Humane received a call from the IIC about the complaint while he was in Kalahandi and arrived at the police station at 10 am. An FIR is yet to be registered, so we are not aware of all the allegations made against him.”
Humane Sagar married Shriya Mishra in 2015, his fellow participant in the show Voice of Odisha Season 2. They have a daughter.
