Bhubaneswar: The Indian women’s hockey team created history by entering the semi-finals in the Olympics for the first time on Monday.
Back in Odisha, which is the official sponsor for both the national men’s and women’s hockey teams, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated the Indian eves for their “terrific win” against Australia in Tokyo.
Naveen posted a congratulatory video on his Twitter handle and wrote, “Congratulations Indian Women’s #Hockey Team on the spectacular win over Australia to seal the semi-final berth in #Tokyo2020. What a terrific game the team played against Australia! Keep the momentum going and wish the team best of luck.”

Earlier on Monday, the Indian women’s hockey team caused one of the greatest upsets by beating Australia 1-0 to enter the semi-finals in the Tokyo Olympics.
India held onto their lead via Gurjit Kaur in the 22nd minute (second quarter) and managed to maintain the lead till the final hooter.
India will next face Argentina on Wednesday. Argentina made it to the semi-finals by beating Germany 3-0 in their quarterfinal match.
