[Watch] Candles Made Of Soya Wax By Young Odisha Entrepreneur A Big Draw At Bali Jatra
Cuttack: Among various attractions, a candle stall put up by Odisha Rural Development And Marketing Society (ORMAS) has been a big draw at the 10-day Bali Jatra in Odisha’s Cuttack city.
According to sources, the candles have been made with soya chunks by a young entrepreneur Tanisha Malla. She named her brand after her mother and grandmother, ‘Sachaaru’.
The candles in various shapes, and sizes and having different quotations carved on them, can be used for more than 70 hours and are available in a price range of Rs 50 to Rs 450.
Tanisha began working on these candles during the COVID lockdown at Khapuria area in Cuttack and thought of selling those at Bali Jatra for the first time. It took her almost two years to learn the techniques of making soya wax candles.
“Usually the scented candles are made up of parabens, but we have used soya chunks. No animal products, petroleum, and chemicals have been used in the candles. We tried our best to keep these eco-friendly,” said Tanisha.
The new eco-friendly scented candles elicited a good response from the visitors.
“We have glass jar candles, designed candles, unscented candles, and scented ones including musky, fruity, floral, flavours of ice cream,” she said.
Notably, Malla completed her graduation in English honours at Ravenshaw College and currently pursuing her PG at SCS Autonomous College in Puri.
