New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi called up Manu Bhaker, the toast of the nation, hours after she became the first Indian female shooter to claim an Olympic medal.
“The good news has made all of us so very happy.. You have made the country proud,” Modi told Manu.
Lauding her achievement of winning a bronze in Women’s 10m Air Pistol, Modi said she had overcome every hurdle which had played truant with her at the Tokyo Olympics.
He hoped that the medal will help her give confidence going ahead in her other two events at the Paris Olympics.

Earlier, PM Modi took to social media platform X to hail Manu’s ‘incredible achievement’.
“A historic medal! Well done, @realmanubhaker, for winning India’s FIRST medal at #ParisOlympics2024! Congrats on the Bronze. This success is even more special as she became the 1st woman to win a medal in shooting for India. An incredible achievement!” PM Modi said.
Manu dedicated the medal to the people of India.
“Winning this medal is a dream come true, not just for me but for everyone who has supported me. I am deeply grateful to the NRAI, SAI, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Coach Jaspal Rana sir, Haryana government and OGQ. I dedicate this victory to my country for their incredible support and love,” Manu wrote on X.
