New Delhi: It was another massive win for the BJP as they reclaimed power in the Delhi Assembly after a long gap of 27 years. And the mood was naturally upbeat at the party headquarters on Saturday evening when Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed party workers.
Starting his speech with ‘Bharat maata ki jai’ and ‘Yamuna maiya ki jai’, Modi hailed his party’s significant victory.
“This is a historic win. People of Delhi have ousted AAP’da… it is a victory of vikas, vision & vishwas,” the PM said.
At one point, Modi paused his speech for a few seconds after noticing an unwell party worker among the audience.
He quickly asked officials to attend to the sick person.
A video doing the rounds shows Modi saying, “Check if he is feeling sleepy or is he unwell? Doctor, please check him. Give him water. It seems he is not well. He is feeling uneasy, give him some water.”

BJP won 48 out of 70 seats, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) the remaining 22, reducing Congress to zero yet again.
It was a far cry from the Delhi Assembly polls in 2015 and 2020, when AAP swept to power with a staggering 67 and 62 seats, respectively.
Back to his AAP bashing, Modi said the party that was born out of anti-corruption agitation turned out to be the most corrupt. He promised that the CAG report on AAP government would be placed in first session of the new Delhi assembly.
“I guarantee that the CAG report will be presented in the first assembly session, whoever has looted will have to return it,” Modi stated.
‘Anna Hazare bearing pain of AAP misdeeds’
Modi slammed AAP and its chief Arvind Kejriwal, saying that anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare had been bearing the pain of the party’s misdeeds.
“These people of ‘AAP-da’ came into politics saying they will change politics, but these people turned out to be completely dishonest. Today I was listening to the statement of Anna Hazare ji. Anna Hazare ji has been bearing the pain of the misdeeds of these people for a long time. Today he too must have got relief from that pain. The party born out of the movement against corruption got involved in corruption. It became such a party of the country whose chief minister and ministers went to jail on corruption charges. Those who used to give themselves certificates of honesty, turned out to be corrupt. This was a big betrayal with Delhi,” the PM said.
Earlier in the evening, Modi tweeted: “Jana Shakti is paramount! Development wins, good governance triumphs. I bow to my dear sisters and brothers of Delhi for this resounding and historic mandate to BJP. We are humbled and honoured to receive these blessings. It is our guarantee that we will leave no stone unturned in developing Delhi, improving the overall quality of life for the people and ensuring that Delhi has a prime role to play in building a Viksit Bharat.”
‘Double hattrick of zeroes by Congress’
Modi mocked Congress party’s dismal performance, quipping that the country’s oldest party has given itself the “gold medal of defeat”, and pointed out that the Mallikarjun Kharge-led party scored a “double hattrick of zeroes”.
He was referring to the fact that Congress failed to open its account in Delhi Assembly for the third time in a row, having drawn a blank in the national capital for the last three Lok Sabha elections as well.
“Today again the people have given a message to the Congress. The Congress has hit a double hattrick of ‘zero’ in the Delhi election. The oldest party in the country is not able to get even one seat in the national capital for the last six times. They are giving the gold medal of defeat to themselves,” Modi said.
“The Congress party has become a parasite. Not only does it go down itself, but it takes others with them. One by one, they are finishing off all their allies,” Modi continued.
Kejriwal says AAP will play role of constructive opposition
Kejriwal accepted defeat, and promised to play role of constructive Opposition in the Delhi Assembly.
“We accept the mandate of the people with great humility. I congratulate the BJP for this victory and I hope they will fulfil all the promises for which people have voted for them,” the former chief minister said in a video message.
“We have done a lot of work in the field of health, education, and infrastructure in the last 10 years. We will not only play the role of a constructive opposition but will also remain among the people and continue to serve them,” he added.
Kejriwal lost to BJP’s Parvesh Verma by 4,089 votes in the New Delhi constituency.
