Ambala: In a historic move, President Draupadi Murmu became India’s first tribal and second woman President, to take a Rafale sortie at Ambala Air Force Station on October 29 (today).
According to reports, the aircraft was piloted by Group Captain Amit Gehani, Commanding Officer of the “Golden Arrows.” The flight marked an inspiring milestone in Indian History.
Having risen from a humble Santhal tribal family in Odisha and braved deep personal loss, including the untimely passing of her husband and two sons, the President continues to inspire millions.
She also had formal interactions with air force personnel credited with recent operational missions. She was presented as an affirmation of the armed forces’ capabilities. Photographs from the base showed the President in flight gear. She was seen inspecting the cockpit area and speaking with pilots and technicians.
For the flight, she was reportedly expected to occupy the rear seat of a two-seat trainer variant. Experienced pilots handle the controls, which is standard arrangement for VIP sorties. Meanwhile, one of the photographs showed the President with Squadron Leader Shivangi Singh, who Pakistan influencers and media claimed was captured by Pakistan during Operation Sindoor.
