Bhubaneswar: Actor Sabyasachi Mishra on Wednesday informed that three of the quadruplets (all baby girls) born at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Saturday, have died.
“Despite all the best efforts at Sishu Bhawan, we lost three of the four newborn babies.
The one who is alive is being shifted from Sishu Bhawan to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar,” he said.
The actor informed that the Commissionerate Police has created a special corridor via Nandakanan to help the newborn reach AIIMS in 30 minutes.
The quadruplets were born to Chhabita Nayak of Sarankul in Bhanjanagar of Ganjam district. Sabyasachi, who had earlier helped Chhabita’s brother to return from Tamil Nadu during the first phase of lockdown, came to the rescue of the pregnant woman and arranged for shifting her to SCB.
It was later revealed that Chhabita was suffering from Sickle cell, severe jaundice as well as anaemia and needed special care.
As her condition was fragile, the team of doctors led by Dr Tushar Kar at SCB, provided adequate medical attention and she delivered the four babies weighing 1 kg, 800 gram, 650 gram and 400 gram on Saturday evening.
All the newborns were kept in the SNCU of the gynaecology department of the hospital as their weight is low.
