New York: Two Delta Air Lines aircraft collided while taxiing, leaving one passenger injured and raising concerns about ground safety operations, at New York’s LaGuardia Airport late Wednesday night.
According to officials, the collision occurred around 9:56 p.m. local time when a Delta regional jet, after landing, struck another Delta aircraft that was taxiing toward its gate. Air traffic control audio confirmed that the regional jet’s wing made contact with the nose of the other plane, causing the wing to break off on impact.

Footage from the scene showed the regional jet’s wing detached and lying on the tarmac, while the nose of the struck plane was visibly damaged. Eyewitnesses, including a CBS News producer at the airport, said the aircraft headed for the gate was suddenly hit by the incoming plane’s wing.
Emergency responders rushed to the site, and the injured passenger was given medical attention before being taken to a hospital.
Airport authorities have launched an investigation into how the two aircraft came into contact during taxiing at one of the busiest airports in the United States. Delta has not yet issued a detailed statement, but operations continued at LaGuardia with minimal disruption as the damaged planes were moved for inspection.
