Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the expected rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine in the country this month, the dry run for the vaccination process began in Odisha as well as other states and Union Territories on Saturday.
Here’s all that you need to know about the dry run:
What is a dry run?
It is like a rehearsal or mock drill to test the mechanism laid out for the COVID-19 vaccination, assess the gaps in the process and address them before the actual drive.
Where will the dry run held in Odisha?
The programme will be held at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar and all the 30 district headquarters hospitals across the state.
At each site, five vaccinators along with 25 healthcare workers will be deployed. There will be three rooms earmarked for the mock drill.
What will happen during the dry run?
The beneficiaries, who are pre-determined by the district/state authorities running the drive, will have to register on Co-Win portal and carry photo identification. Checking of identity cards and registration of those coming for the vaccination will be done first.
They will then be given a placebo shot as part of the exercise. Later, they will be kept under observation for 30 minutes and in case of any side effect, immediate medication will be done.
What happens after the dry run?
After the dry run, the state government will prepare a report with feedback and suggestions. This will be submitted to the Centre for further deliberation and action.
