Bhubaneswar: The first AirAsia Bhubaneswar-Bangkok direct flight took off from Biju Patnaik International Airport here at 12:25 am on Friday.
The inaugural flight received a water cannon salute at the airport. All the 165 passengers were also given a customary welcome. Minister of Tourism Ashok Chandra Panda lit an inaugural lamp at 9.30 pm before the check-in process started.
The flight took around 2.5 hours and reached the Thailand capital at 4:18 am local time.
The service will be available three days a week- Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
The return flight will take off from Bangkok at 10:35 pm local time and reach Bhubaneswar at 11:55 pm.
