Weather Observatories Set Up In Every District Of Odisha
Bhubaneswar: Odisha has achieved a milestone in installation of Manual Surface Observatories in all the 30 districts.
Odisha now has a total of 38 manual observatories covering all the 30 districts. The newly included observatories have been set up at Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Bargarh, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Nuapada, Khurda and Nabarangpur in this month.
Seven observatories were installed at Nayagarh, Boudh, Chhatrapur, Paralakhemundi, Rayagada, Bhadrak and Jajpur during 2020-21.
Of the total 38 observatories, 10 are fully operated by IMD and rest 28 are operationalised in coordination with the Government of Odisha. The observatories are set up under the initiative of Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar (IMD) and Revenue and Disaster Management Department.
Besides these, the IMD has two Doppler Weather Radar stations at Paradip and Gopalpur and six High Wind Speed Recorder (HWSR) at Gopalpur, Puri, Bhubaneswar, Paradip, Chandbali and Balasore. These network of observatories will act as a boost for weather information as well as weather forecasting for the entire state.
