New Delhi: In the latest gruesome crime against women in Uttar Pradesh, a 19-year-old was kidnapped and gangraped by 22 people for about a week in Varanasi.
Six of the perpetrators have been arrested, while police are on the hunt for the others.
A resident of Lalpur area in north Varanasi, the teenager had left home to visit a friend on March 29, but didn’t return home. Her family filed a missing complaint with police on April 4.
The same day, she was apparently drugged and released near Pandeypur area by her kidnappers.
She managed to go to another friend’s place nearby, and was later taken home.
After she disclosed details of the ordeal she faced, her father lodged a complaint with the police.
The complaint, a copy of which is with NDTV, mentions that 22 people raped her.
The multiple sexual assaults allegedly took place at a hookah bar, a hotel, a lodge and a guest house.
Senior police officer Chandrakant Meena said the victim or her family had not filed a complaint of sexual assault initially.
“The rape complaint was lodged only on April 6,” Meena told newspersons.
A case was registered against the accused and police are interrogating those who have been taken into custody. Since some of them are minors, police are reluctant to give any detail unless the investigation is completed.
