Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm activity is likely to pound many parts of Odisha till the end of this month, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday.
Rainfall of varied intensity will be experienced in different parts of the state over the next four days as the low-pressure over the Bay of Bengal intensified into a well-marked low-pressure.
The well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast persisted. It is likely to move slowly west-north-westwards across Odisha during next 24 hours.
In the next 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, and Malkangiri. The weather agency issued an orange warning for these districts.
Similarly, heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Kandhamal. Yellow warning was issued for these districts.
Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur,
Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, and Balangir during the period.
On August 28-29, yellow warning was issued for heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Balangir, Nuapada, and Bargarh.
Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
On August 29, 30, yellow warning of heavy rainfall was issued for one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, and Bargarh.
On August 30-31, heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh. IMD issued a yellow warning.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph is likely to prevail along & off Odisha coasts and over North Bay of Bengal on August 27 and 28. Sea condition is also likely to be moderate to rough along & off Odisha coasts.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coasts and over North Bay of Bengal on August 27 and 28.
