Kolkata: Sujit Bose, Fire and Emergencies Minister, West Bengal and his wife have been tested positive for COVID-19. He was working extensively in Amphan relief operations. The minister was also actively involved in resolving migrant workers’ issues.
“He is asymptomatic and has been advised to follow the norms of home quarantine. His wife has also tested positive. She too, has been advised to stay at home. All of them are fine and there is nothing to worry,” West Bengal Health Department was reported as saying by News 18.
Reportedly, the minister and his wife were found positive after their domestic help had earlier tested positive for the virus.
This is a major setback to the Mamata Banerjee government since the state is already reeling with 4,536 confirmed COVID-19 cases and the disastrous aftermath of Cyclone Amphan, wherein Bose was actively working in restoring order.
He is also the first Cabinet minister to be infected with the novel coronavirus.
