Bhubaneswar: Even as thundershower brought down temperature in coastal areas of Odisha, western region continued to reel under heatwave with seven places recording 43 degree Celsius or more on Monday.
According to the evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, maximum (day) temperature crossed 40 degree Celsius in as many as 18 places of the state on the day.
Balangir recorded the highest temperature in the state at 44.5 degree Celsius. It was followed by Titlagarh with 44, Boudh 43.5 and Jharsuguda and Sambalpur with 43.4 degree Celsius. Bhawanipatna and Bargarh registered 43 degree Celsius.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack registered maximum temperature of 39.8 and 37.2 degree Celsius respectively.
The IMD said a cyclonic circulation lies over south Jharkhand and neighbourhood at 0.9 km above mean sea level. It forecast that day temperature is very likely to fall by 4-6 degree Celsius during next 3-4 days. Strong gusty surface wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph is likely along and off North Odisha coast between May 6 and 7.
The Met office has issued orange warning for the districts of Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khurda and Puri where thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and hailstorm is very likely in next 24 hours.
