Western Odisha Sizzles As Temperature Zooms Past 44 Degree Celsius In 7 Places

Bhubaneswar: The heatwave further intensified in Odisha with temperature zooming past 44 degree Celsius in as many as 7 places on Saturday.

According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, 20 places in the state recorded maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius on the day.

The western Odisha sizzled under scorching sun as mercury crossed 44 degree Celsius in 7 places. The industrial district of Jharsuguda in the region was the hottest place in the state with 44.8 degree Celsius.

It was followed by Sambalpur and Boudh with 44.6 degree Celsius, Sonepur 44.5, Bargarh 44.4, Balangir 44.3, Hirakud 44.2 and Sundargarh 44.1.

The IMD has forecast that there will be no large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) at many places in Odisha during next 4-5 days. Maximum temperature is very likely to be above normal by 3-5 degree Celsius at a few places.

Consequently, hot and discomfort weather is likely during next 4 days. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during 11 am and 3 pm, the Met office said.

It has issued yellow warning and said heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places in the districts of Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Balangir, Boudh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj.
