Bhubaneswar: The previous government in Odisha had in November, 2020 announced loans for house building and purchase of two-wheeler and four-wheeler for working journalists at three per cent interest rate.
The government had announced the benefits following the amendment to the Odisha State Working Journalists Welfare Fund Rules-2006.
However, no concrete decision could be taken for the implementation of the announcement due to certain reasons, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the state Assembly on Thursday.
Communication has been sent to the Director, Institutional Finance for working out the modalities and procedures for the implementation of the scheme, he said.
Talks have also been held with the officials of banks in this regard but no agreement could be arrived at over the possibility of repayment of the principal and interest of loan by journalists getting very low remuneration. Bilateral steps will be taken together with bank authorities in this regard, he said.
