What Were Saira Banu’s First Words After Dilip Kumar Breathed His Last?

Mumbai: Death is an inevitable truth of life. More so for someone who has lived 98 years and suffered prolonged illness. Yet, it’s so difficult to accept for near and dear ones.

Saira Banu felt that pain on Wednesday after losing Dilip Kumar, her husband of nearly 55 years.

It was pulmonologist Dr Jalil Parkar, who was treating the veteran actor at Mumbai’s PD Hinduja Hospital, who confirmed the news of his death this morning.

Peeping Moon quoted the doctor as saying that Saira Banu’s first reaction on hearing that Dilip Kumar had breathed his last was:  “God snatched away my reason for living. Without Sahab, I won’t be able to think about anything. Everyone, please pray.”

There was an age difference of 22 years between the childless couple. The two got married on October 11, 1966, after Dilip Kumar’s relationship with actress Madhubala ended. Dilip saab was 44 then and Saira Banu 22.
