New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have vowed to punish the terrorists and conspirators behind the Pahalgam attack beyond their imagination.

Now, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh assured his countrymen that it’s his responsibility to work with the armed forces and give a “befitting reply” to those who cast an evil eye on India.

“I want to assure you that under Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi’s leadership, what you desire will certainly happen,” the Defence Minister said on Sunday, implying Indians’ demand for a response to Pakistan, who have been blamed for backing cross-border terrorism.

“As the Defence minister, it is my responsibility to work with my soldiers and ensure the protection of the country’s borders. And it is my responsibility to give a befitting reply, by working with the armed forces, to those who cast an evil eye on our country,” Rajnath said at an event in Delhi.

He said people know Prime Minister Modi very well and are quite familiar with his working style, his determination and the way he has learned to “take risks” in his life.

Terrorists linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba shot dead 26 innocent civilians at Baisaran valley, near Pahalgam, on April 22.

Modi has held meetings with heads of Army, Navy and Air Force recently, and has reportedly given the armed forces a free hand to choose the date and form of strikeback.

With the culprits still on the run 12 days after carrying out the brutal massacre, some form of retaliation may be imminent.
