Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated his 74th birthday in Odisha, the state which provided BJP the much-needed succour with 20 Lok Sabha seats ensuring a third term for the NDA government at the Centre.
During the one-day visit, the PM launched Subhadra Yojana, a women-centric scheme of the Odisha government, and unveiled railway and national highway projects worth over Rs 3,800 crore. He laid the foundation stones and dedicated to the nation railway projects worth Rs 2,871 crore in the state. He also launched national highway projects worth Rs 1,000 crore at a programme at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar.
Modi also got emotional while savouring Odia delicacy ‘kheeri’ at the house of an Adivani family in Gadakan area here while handing over the keys to the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme, as it stirred memories of his late mother whom he used to visit on his birthday to seek blessings. “While relishing the kheeri offered by my sister, it was obvious that I was recollecting my late mother,” an emotional Modi said adding that this divine feeling is the deposit of his entire life.

Chief Minister Mohan Majhi also had a special gift for the PM. He presented him a memento, as a token of gratitude and goodwill gesture, containing a Rs 10 currency note (Special Day Note) with serial number 170950 signifying his date of birth.
“Appreciating the gesture, the Prime Minister thanked Odisha CM for the unique gift,” the CMO handle tweeted along with the picture of the memento.
