Mumbai: Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan’s sizzling on-screen chemistry undoubtedly marked a golden era in the Hindi film industry.
On completing 25 years in the industry, Rekha while reflecting on her journey, shared some personal insights with Rediff.
When asked if she has ever copied her co-star, Amitabh’s style in any of her movies, the actress replied in affirmation.
“I don’t deny it,” she said, while recalling how a critic once told her that she had mimicked Amitabh in ‘Madam X.’
“I agreed with him,” she said and went on to add, “Look, when we started working together, we were at a very impressionable stage. Each one left his or her impression on the other. If you saw a crowd in those days from a top angle, you just saw a whole sea of heads with the Amitabh hairstyle. I worked with him in 10 films at an early stage of my career, spanning over so many years. How can I not be influenced?”
When asked about the best compliment she has ever received from Amitabh, she said, “I think the only compliment he has knowingly or unknowingly paid me was that he gave me an opportunity to work with a great co-star like him. That is the biggest compliment I have ever received.”
Rekha and Amitabh’s iconic movies include ‘Silsila’, ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’, ‘Mr. Natwarlal’, ‘Suhaag’, ‘Do Anjaane’, and ‘Ram Balram’.
