Mumbai: The Samay Raina-hosted ‘India’s Got Latent’ is in the eye of a storm following YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia’s crass, controversial remarks on the show.
“Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day or join them to finish it once and for all?” Ranveer, who was one of the judges on the show, had asked a contestant.
This angered the audience and sparked outrage over the vulgar content, with many seeking a complete ban on the show.
Amidst this backlash, an old video clip of actor Varun Dhawan on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast has resurfaced.
In the clip, Varun shared about being invited to Raina’s talent show and the reason why he refused to accept the invitation.
“I ran into him also recently. He asked me to be on the show, and I genuinely think I would thrive on the show. I could get cancelled. But I think the show will be affected negatively because the more eyeballs you get on it in that way sometimes, and if you are doing it with that humour. Though he is not scared of all that. He is really not scared of it,” said the actor.
When Ranveer suggested that Varun should do it, the actor replied, “I would do it in a heartbeat. I am not worried. I think I’ll have to do it when I am not promoting a film. So then there’s nobody else caught in the crossfire. Because there will be a crossfire for sure.”

As the video went viral, fans quipped that Varun was mature enough to turn down the invitation.
One of the fans commented, “Varun made a mature decision.”
Another wrote, “Varun had so much understanding when he said this.”
Another posted, “He is way too smart. He knows how things will be perceived by being a part of the show.”
After facing massive backlash, YouTuber Ranveer on Monday apologised for his inappropriate question to a contestant on the show.
However, a complaint was filed against Ranveer, Apoorva, Samay, and organisers of the show.
The parliamentary standing committee on Communication and Information & Technology is likely to summon influencer Ranveer over his controversial “sex with parents” remark.
Meanwhile, a team of Mumbai Police also reached his residence on Tuesday to probe the case.
Action might also be taken against YouTube for airing the content.
