Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra, who is in the eye of a storm for her comments on Goddess Kaali, fired a fresh salvo at BJP on Friday.
The BJP unit of West Bengal has demanded action against the Krishnanagar MP for saying that Kaali is a ‘meat-eating, alcohol-accepting goddess’. Several FIRs have also been registered against Mahua for hurting religious sentiments.
“Who is the BJP to teach us how to conduct puja of Goddess Kali in a particular way? Neither Lord Ram nor Lord Hanuman solely belongs to the BJP. Has the party taken the lease of Hindu dharma?” the MP asked.
“Being a Kaali bhakt (devotee), I know how to worship Kaali. We have been worshipping the goddess the same way for past 2,000 years,” she told a local news channel.
Mahua opined that BJP’s attempt to “impose its agenda of Hindutva and thrusting its monolithic views” on other ethnic groups should be resisted and addressed for the sake of the country.
“For long, we had avoided the issue of BJP imposing its own version of Hinduism, which is based on established norms of North India. The party should desist from imposing it on people of other parts of the country such as West Bengal where Hindus follow their well-established rituals for centuries,” she added.
Interestingly, even her party has distanced itself from Mahua’s comments.
